We caught up with Konrad (@trail_tacoma) after his recent trip out to Bozezman, to talk about his 2024 TRD ORP Hybrid Tacoma in Bronze Oxide.
This truck is shaping up to be one hell of a build. Here is a brief interview with Konrad, what mods he has on the truck, and what he has planned for the future.
Enojy!
Q: What made you choose the 2024 TRD Off Road Premium Hybrid in Bronze Oxide?
A: The Bronze Oxide color immediately stood out to me. I knew I wanted something unique that would pop on and off-road. The TRD ORP Hybrid trim gave me the additional power, crawl control, and comfort features I wanted without jumping all the way to the Pro. The TRD ORP Hybrid might be one of the most popular trims for good reason, it gives you everything you need... and nothing more.
And with the NyTop fenders and a few other mods, you can really make an ORP look like pro pretty quick.
Q: What's the armor setup?
A: I went full Cali Raised LED for armor. That includes the front skid plates, full belly skids with gas tank protection, and LCA skids. Everything is steel and powder coated black. I also added their Trail Edition rock sliders which give me extra protection and a clean look without going overboard.
Q: What wheels and tires?
A: I’m running Lock Off Road Combat wheels in a 17x9 size with a +1mm offset. Tires are Arroyo M/Ts in a 33x12.5R17 spec with red letters out. They fill out the wheel wells perfectly and handle off-road abuse really well so far.
Q: Any performance or clearance mods?
A: The SXTH Element Trail Pipe is one of my favorite mods. It replaces everything behind the cat back and cleans up the rear end while giving me more clearance. I also added their intake and red machined billet recovery points up front. Subtle details but super functional. And of course, the NyTop carbon fiber fender flares clean up the overall profile and add an aggressive stance.
Check out this review on their recovery points. I'll have some follow up reviews on their other products soon.
Q: Any lighting mods?
A: I’m running Cali Raised LED amber fog light replacements and a YotaVerse TRD Pro grille for a cleaner front end. The KC lighting setup is next... I’ve got plans for Flex Era pods, rock lights, and eventually the Gravity Titan Pro6 setup once the bumper goes on.
Debating putting the KC Pro6 on the GFC or just mounting it on the windshield. Not sure yet.
Q: What suspension system are you running?
A: Right now I’m on the Peak Suspension Trail Kit, which is a 2.25" front preload spacer setup paired with 2" rear spacers. I’m also running their upper control arms with the ProBearing Silent Spin bushings and ProBearing ball joints. It’s a clean, simple kit that gave me enough room to clear 33s and wheel comfortably while I plan my long travel future.
Here is a review of the Peak Suspension Kit.
Q: Tell us about that new GFC Camper
A: I recently picked up a GFC Camper V2 Pro, and it completely changed how I use the truck. It has the Turbo Cubby and all the available accessories like drip rails, beef bars, ladder kit, and the awning setup. I like how modular and trail-ready it is without being overbuilt. It matches the purpose of the truck perfectly.
I had a GFC on my last truck (3rd Gen), and it's hard to live without a GFC once you have one.
Q: What’s happening in the back of the truck?
A: Out back I’m running a RIGd UltraSwing setup with the UltraTable, Side Hack, Hi-side HiLift mount, and a RotoPAX 2-gallon fuel can. There’s a full-size spare mounted back there too. It gives me everything I need without having to rely on a full rear bumper replacement just yet.
Q: Any interior or comfort mods?
A: Inside I added PRP seat covers in a plaid spec with custom accents. They really bring the interior to life. I’m also running Husky floor liners, Canvasback door covers, and a MACE MFG interior volume knob. The whole cabin feels more personalized and protected. I also tinted the windows with 30 percent polycristiline film all the way around for comfort and privacy.
Q: How are you handling gear storage and organization?
A: Out back I’m running the full BamBeds SOLO Platform with integrated sliders. It’s been a game changer for organizing recovery gear, tools, and camp essentials. The modularity and ease of install or removal is exactly what I needed with the GFC setup. It lets me adapt the truck depending on the trip without committing to a full drawer system.
Check out this post for more photos of the BamBeds setup.
For cold storage, I recently added an APL55 fridge paired with the matching slide. It’s powered by the PB1000 power station which keeps everything running for days without worry. Super clean setup that fits perfectly in the rear of the bed without eating up too much space. Simple, reliable, and functional... just like the rest of the build.
Q: What’s next for the build?
A: The next big move is going to be a C4 Fabrication front hybrid bumper with a 12K SuperWinch. After that I’m going full KC on lighting and jumping up to Lock Off Road beadlocks with 37 inch M/Ts or R/Ts. I’ve got some major plans. This truck is far from done.
